Ancient Kauri BT - (3 P/U Version)
The body of this guitar is made from Ancient Kauri that has been carbon dated to be between 30,000 and 50,000 years old. It is sort of a cross between a Tele and a Les Paul, with the front and rear contours of a Strat. I call this style the "BT" because the first 2 guitars I built in this style were Baritones.
There is a lot of wild grain and bits of bark running through the body diagonally and a chunk of bark along the back (which has been bonded in place and hopefully stays put). I have finished it with 4 coats of Polymerized Tung Oil and one Clear Coat.
The neck is Figured Maple with a Maple fingerboard. The headstock is similar to a Strat but with a few extra curves. It has Grover locking tuners and a custom cut Buffalo Bone nut
It has a Bigsby style tremolo and a roller bridge.
The 3 humbuckers were made by Mike Turk in Bracebridge, ON. and they sound great. Each pickup goes to a mini toggle (split-off-humbucker) then to a master volume and tone. I have wired in a passive overdrive circuit operated by a separate toggle switch.
This has good to be one of the prettiest guitars I have ever seen… and definitely the nicest one I have ever built.
