Surf Bass
This the first Surf Bass I built... the proto-type. Click HERE to see the second surf bass.
This is a variation of the Vortex Bass. The main difference is that it is a bit smaller and lighter. The body is a pine frame sandwiched between a Maple top and bottom. It has been finished with a purple aniline water based stain and 3 coats of water based clear-coat. It has a short scale maple neck with a rosewood fret board that is finished with a couple light coats of oil and 1 coat of water based clear-coat on the headstock. The bridge is an old style Fender bridge/tailpiece and the tuners are mini, heavy duty bass tuners. It has a single pickup with 1 volume and 1 tone pot. I have added an extra capacitor and a mini toggle switch that extends the range of tone available. It has a 'Psuedo' sound hole to give it an acoustic look… in fact the sound is great when unplugged!
