The Apollo BT - with Dual Humbuckers

This has been another rainy day project that I have been working on for way too long. It started because I had a NOS Dano neck that I wanted to use on something. So one day I glued up 3 small pieces of 2" Walnut that were in the shop and decided to build another BT style guitar.

I kept the Dano tuners and aluminum nut on the neck, even though I would have preferred Grovers and a bone nut.

I used some maroon aniline stain on the walnut and then started French Polishing. However the shellac was tuning my nice maroon colour brown so I quit with the shellac and applied a couple coats of MinWax Wipe On Poly.

The pickups were made by Clint Searcy in Nashville, TN. I won them in a fund raising auction on the Musical Instrument Makers Forum last year. I find the neck pickup to have a vintage PAF sound. The bridge pickup is quite a bit hotter and really wails.

Both pickups are wired to coil splitting switches which makes this guitar extremely versatile. The switches are On/Off/On which allows for 8 different tones. I have also used a Varitone Switch for the Tone Pot for some added flavour. The Varitone was also an auction win from the Musical Instrument Makers Forum.

To top things off she sports a generic
somewhat Fender style tremolo that I picked up on eBay for 19 bucks.
